INTRODUCTION

The UK has a rapidly growing demand for professionals with digital expertise. This A Level Pathway will equip you with a combination of technical IT and business skills which are essential as more organisations strive to leverage technology for their success.

There are many exciting digital careers in the UK that require a blend of computer science and business qualifications. From Technology Consultants – who provide expert advice to organisations on technical solutions to achieve business goals; Marketing Managers – who use big data to design and implement marketing strategies across various digital channels; Business Analysts – who interpret complex data and business processes to help businesses make informed decisions; to Cyber Security Professionals – who protect computer systems and networks from potential threats. To name just a few!

What will I do?

On this Pathway you will study three A Level subjects for two years. The Digital Pathway includes Computer Science A Level and Business A Level. The third choice is yours from the additional subjects list.

The Computer Science course will teach you the fundamentals of computing and programming, providing you with a solid foundation for higher education or a thriving digital career. You will acquire essential technical skills and put your problem-solving and computing knowledge to the test in a project of your own.

On the Business course you will delve into the world of business and cover a wide range of topics including strategic planning, leadership, operations, human resources, marketing, and financial performance. Through practical exercises and real-life business scenarios, you will develop the skills and confidence to make informed business decisions, ensuring profitability and stakeholder satisfaction.

What’s next?

After completing your A Level studies, there are loads of exciting paths you can take. Many students decide to continue their education by pursuing a degree, Foundation Degree, or HND/HNC at university. Alternatively, you could consider applying for an Advanced, Higher, or Degree Apprenticeship, where you have the fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn. Another option is to dive right into the working world, gaining valuable training in a field that interests you.

Students who study A Levels in Business and Computer Science have loads of degree options, if going to university is on the cards. You could study a degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Economics, Marketing, Finance or Management. The world is your oyster!

Having a grasp of both IT systems and business concepts provides a solid foundation for further specialisation and lifelong learning in the fast-evolving digital landscape.

Entry Requirements

5 x 5s including a minimum 5 in English Language and minimum 6 in maths.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER SCIENCE

On this course you will explore the fundamentals of computing and programming, providing you with a solid foundation for higher education or a thriving digital career. With our comprehensive curriculum, you will acquire essential technical skills and become proficient in various programming languages. You will sharpen your problem-solving abilities, gain knowledge in data and systems management, and understand the practical applications of mathematics in the field of computing.

You may be passionate about the technology behind computing, from networking, infrastructure and cybersecurity, or want to follow your creative side and become a web, app or software developer.

If you are looking for a rewarding profession that enables you to master complex technical systems while enhancing your innovation and creative skills, Computer Science is for you. How it’s assessed

This is a two-year qualification assessed by written exams and a non-exam assessment, in the form of a practical investigation. You’ll work independently on a problem you are passionate about and expand your programming skills and gain a deeper understanding of the world of computer science.

INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS

Throughout this A Level course, you will explore various business principles. From strategic success to leadership, operations, human resources, marketing, and financial performance, we’ve got it all covered! You will have the opportunity to analyse real-life business situations in different contexts, ranging from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to multinational organisations, as well as service and manufacturing sectors.

You will delve into the interconnected nature of business activities and the competitive environment. We’ll discuss how technology and data play a vital role in strategic decision-making. And of course, we’ll always keep in mind the impact these decisions have on key stakeholders and the environment.

These skills can be applied to other subjects as well. They’ll come in handy whether you’re pursuing further education, entering the workforce, or even starting your own business!

How it’s assessed

This is a two-year qualification assessed by 100% written exams.

THIRD A LEVEL SELECTION

In addition to the two A Levels outlined; you will choose one additional subject from the following A Level subjects.

Please note you will apply for the A Level Pathway now, selecting your first two subjects and choose your third subject at a later date.

english a level

Study a combination of literature and language to analyse how language is used in both literary and non-literary works. You’ll engage creatively, critically, analytically and independently with a wide range of texts.

math a level

Gain a solid foundation in mathematical principles and concepts that are not only relevant to further studies in the field of mathematics but also applicable to various scientific and technical disciplines.

Entry Requirement: Minimum 7 in Maths and Minimum 5 in English Language.

Psychology A Level

Delve into the complexities of the human mind, helping us recognise patterns of behaviour and emotions in ourselves and others. Discover the interaction between cognition (thoughts), social contexts and how humans behave.

Law A Level

Explore all things law, legal issues, the English legal system, and both private and public areas of substantive law. Learn critical thinking and craft reasoned arguments using legal rules in hypothetical situations.
