How do we support you?

Here at Milton Keynes College we provide a comprehensive support network to allow our students to truly focus on fulfilling their potential.

Coming to College is a big step to take, and we know that making such a transition is not always easy. We are passionate about student success, providing the best teaching and learning in a nurturing and encouraging environment.

To supplement this, our student support teams guide students with emotional and wellbeing matters, as well as help with careers, finances and all of the wrap-around support that students can access at any time throughout college. From their very first day, expert advice, support and guidance is available to all students.

CAREERS ADVICE

Need some help in deciding what to do next?

You legally have to be in some form of education until you’re 18. After that, the next step is entirely up to you. Whenever someone is asked “what do you want to do with your life?”, it’s very rare to receive a definitive answer. Lots of people are never 100% sure what they want to do, but the way to find this out is to try new things and step out of your comfort zone. Whether it’s progressing onto a University course in a subject you’ve studied here at College, stepping into an Apprenticeship or going straight into a job, our friendly advisers are available to make sure you have all the information, advice and guidance you need to make the right decision about your future.

Please contact careersteam@mkcollege.ac.uk if you would like to find out more.

WHAT INFORMATION, ADVICE AND GUIDANCE IS AVAILABLE?

STUDENT FINANCE

You could be entitled to a variety of bursaries and funding support options depending on your circumstances. Head over to our Student Finance page to find out what kind of financial help you could be receiving.

WELFARE, WELLBEING AND ENRICHMENT

Mental Health issues can affect anyone, in a huge variety of ways. It does not take age, gender or ethnicity into consideration, and can last for any amount of time. 1 out of 4 people experience a mental health difficulty each year, with half of these experiencing them at the first time by 14-years-old, and 3 out of 4 by the time they reach the mid 20’s. (Department of Health 2011)

We understand that this time in your lives can be a difficult and daunting experience. As a college we take the mental health of our students seriously. Our Counsellor and Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisors will build relationships that provide you with the opportunity to explore and challenge issues. Sometimes it’s good just to talk and hear a supportive voice.

Our team is also able to support students in crisis. Sometimes students just need a one off slot that day to ‘off load’. If you want to access support from the Counselling  or Mental Health and Wellbeing team, please talk to your tutor who can arrange your first meeting or you can contact the team yourself at wellbeingteam@mkcollege.ac.uk.

The teams can offer support, however, they will also refer you to other services if they feel that another service would be more beneficial.
