Apprenticeship Areas
While enrolled on a Milton Keynes College apprenticeship, you will have access to industry-standard facilities, receive one-on-one support from an assigned mentor and benefit from all areas of student support, including counselling, careers advice and more.

Hairdressing & Barbering
Hairdressing and Barbering is a vibrant fast-paced industry, with many career paths and opportunities where you will never stop learning. For example, you could be working in a busy salon, doing editorial work, or travelling the world.
Apprentices attend college 1 day a week to complete some of the 20% off the job training. This includes professionalism, safe practices and behaviours of hairdressing and barbering, as well as theory and practical skills like shampooing, styling, cutting, colouring and perming.
Following the assessments for the hair professional qualification, a 6-hour end point assessment will take place with an external examiner. There is then an opportunity to progress onto the Advanced and creative L3 hair professional apprenticeship.

Business & Finance
There are lots of different careers available in the Business and Finance sector. All of these areas combine practical skills and behaviour with knowledge you gain from the College.
Our Workplace Trainers are experts in their field and are passionate about the subjects they cover. Activities can range from using spreadsheets to accounting software, dealing with customers and resolving problems, project management and making changes, though to HR advice and employing staff.

Digital & IT
As computers become more ubiquitous, so do the range of apprenticeships within the digital and IT industries. As an apprentice Information Communications Technician, your role would be wide-ranging and, on a typical day, may involve installing software, troubleshooting network problems or answering calls on a helpdesk. As a software developer, you would work as part of a team developing software for your clients. As a digital marketer, you will be involved in the designing and implementing of digital campaigns across different online and media platforms. Digital apprenticeships are typically between 18 and 24 months in duration.

Engineering
There are a lot of different careers available in the engineering sector. For some jobs you’ll need practical skills and creativity and in others you’ll need to be good at maths and science. An interest in how things work and problem-solving skills will also help if you want to design, test and build the technology of tomorrow.
The length of an engineering apprenticeship can be anywhere between 24 and 48 months. Attendance at College can also vary between one and three days per week.

Hospitality
We currently offer a Commis Chef apprenticeship, which is a great introduction into the hospitality career path. Career paths include working in a busy restaurant, pub, or a hotel, and it could even take you around the world.
Apprentices attend college 1 day a week to complete 20% off the job training and the rest of the week will be spent working for an employer further developing their skills. During the Commis Chef course, apprentices learn and develop their knowledge, behaviours, and gain skills with knives, vegetables, meat, fish, doughs, pastries, and more.

Additional qualifications
At MK College, we offer additional courses that go alongside your regular training. These courses cover fun topics like marketing, health and safety, communication, and digital skills.
