HNC Engineering Pathway
What will I do?
This qualification is mapped to the Engineering Manufacturing Technician occupational standard. The Units Studied are: Engineering Design, Engineering Maths, Managing a Professional Engineering Project, Mechatronics, Mechanical Principles, Production Engineering for Manufacture, Quality and Process Improvement and Digital Principles.
What’s Next?
Upon successful completion of this course, your employee can enrol on the HND* in Engineering and gain a Level 5 qualification. Tutors will support your employee with this and advise on the application process.
*Successful enrolment on the HND will be based on performance on the HNC.
Is it for me?
The HNC course is for those wanting to enhance their engineering career, focusing on developing skills aligned with industry standards. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in STEM subjects or related workplace experience and be ready to tackle academic challenges in a formal college setting and through independent or collaborative work. Similarly, this is a pathway for those pursuing higher education paths such as a Higher National Diploma, BEng, or BSc.
Entry Requirements: A Full Level 3 Qualification in a STEM-related subject or significant relevant industry experience.
Access to Engineering Pathway
The Access to Higher Education Diploma in Engineering is an adult only qualification that prepares engineers who are over 18 after completing a Level 2 qualification, may not have the traditional qualifications (e.g. A-Levels) for a direct entry route to Degree/HNC Level or for those wishing to make a career change or who have been out of formal education for a significant time to help build their skills and confidence.
What will I do?
Some of the Technical Units studied included within the Qualification are: Mathematics for Engineers, Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) for Engineers, Electrical Science for Engineers, Mechanical Science for Engineers, Further Mathematics for Engineers and Independent Academic Study for Engineers.
What’s Next?
Upon successful completion of this course, your employees can enrol on the HTQ in Engineering at Milton Keynes College and gain a Level 4 qualification. Tutors will support your employee with this and advise you on the application process.
Is it for me?
Students applying for this course require a proven background in a STEM-related subject/workplace. Your employees should be prepared to complete academic work within both a formal college environment and work independently to engage with and complete the course content successfully.
Entry Requirements: GCSEs in English, Maths and Science (STEM-related subject) at Grade 5 or C and above.
