In 2012, 52% of all deaths occurred in a hospital, yet hospitals were ranked the lowest in terms of the overall quality of care provided during the end of life period. In the same year, hospices were ranked as offering the highest quality of care during the end of life period, with care homes a close second, and the home third.
By completing this course, you will not only gain a nationally recognised qualification, but will also prove to any current or future employer that you have the willingness and enthusiasm to go that extra mile in order to provide the best care for people during this sensitive and emotional time of their lives

This course is split into five manageable units:
Unit 1: Understanding end of life care
Unit 2: Communication during end of life care
Unit 3: Assessment and care planning in end of life care
Unit 4: Person-centred approaches to end of life care
Unit 5: Care during the final hours of life and bereavement care

By undertaking this course, you will gain formal recognition by obtaining a nationally recognised qualification. This will enable you to further your own continuous professional development, which could support you in improving your career prospects. You can also progress onto further qualifications.
Is it for me?
This course is delivered online using our learning platform Equal. Students must have full use of either a PC or Laptop. You will need access to the Internet.
This qualification will provide learners who are already working, or who are intending to work, in the health and social care sector, with knowledge and understanding of end of life care in order to support their role and develop their career.
You must already hold a L1 or equivalent English qualification.
Entry requirements
All applicants must be at least 19 years of age and have a good level of English skills to a minimum of Level One standard. Applicants ideally would have achieved the Level 2 Certificate in Principles of End of Life Care.
Applicants aged 19-23 are only eligible for full funding if they have a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent but have not yet achieved a level 3 or above. Applicants aged 24+ must not have already achieved a Level 3 qualification or above. Please contact us for clarification if required.
Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, West of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland. How will I be assessed?
This course requires the completion and passing of five short tutor marked online unit assessments. Learners are allocated a course tutor who will mark assessments and are able to offer support through the online learning platform.
How much will I have to study each week?
The course duration is 15 weeks and will requires approximately 4-6 hours of study per week plus the submission of 5 short online assessments during the course. Course start dates are flexible, but learners are expected to successfully complete the programme within the allocated timescale.

Addition information
These courses are free for eligible applicants who successfully complete the programme. A fee of £90 will be charged to learners who enrol onto the programme but do not complete the course.
