Course overview
A new case of dementia arises somewhere in the world every 4 seconds. Dementia not only affects the individual themselves, but can also devastate their family, friends and entire lifestyle.
What will I do?
This course is split into 7 manageable units:
Unit 1: Dementia Awareness
Unit 2: Person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
Unit 3: Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
Unit 4: Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
Unit 5: Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
Unit 6: Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
Unit 7: Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care
*Funding is subject to learners meeting set eligibility criteria; this may be discussed prior to the start of any course. Learners must be aged 19+ and have lived in the EU for the past three years. Please note that a withdrawal fee of £90 is payable if learners decide to withdraw from the course.

You must already hold a L1 or equivalent English qualification
Entry requirements
All applicants must be at least 19 years of age to enrol for the course and have a good level of English skills to a minimum of Level One standard. Applicants aged 19-23 are only eligible if they have already achieved a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent.
Please contact us for clarification if required. Applicants aged 24+ do not require any prior academic qualifications, but do need to meet the required standard of English skills. Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, West of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland. Please contact providers in your local area for alternative options.
How much will I have to study each week?
The course duration is 10 weeks and will requires approximately 4 – 6 hours of study per week plus the submission of 7 online assessments during the course. Course start dates are flexible, but learners are expected to successfully complete the programme within the allocated timescale.
What kind of qualification is this?
Learners will receive a nationally recognised qualification by successfully completing this course. The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care is awarded by TQUK.
How will I be assessed?
This course requires the completion and passing of seven tutor marked online unit assessments. Learners are allocated a course tutor who will mark assessments and are able to offer support through the online learning platform.
