INTRODUCTION

This course will equip learners with a detailed understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including equality and diversity in the context of SEND and legislation and guidance that helps promote this. Learners will also look at how a person- centred approach can benefit individuals living with SEND, how SEND conditions can affect learning and how to support those living with SEND and their families.

This course is split into five units:

Unit 1: Introduction to Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

Unit 2: Understanding equality and diversity in the context of SEND

Unit 3: Principles of promoting a person-centred approach for individuals with SEND Unit 4: Understanding SEND and learning

Unit 5: Living with Special Educational Needs

By undertaking this course, you will gain formal recognition by obtaining a nationally recognised qualification. This will enable you to further your own continuous professional development, which could support you in improving your career prospects. You can also progress onto further qualifications.

Is it for me?

This qualification is aimed at anyone who currently work in the education and health and social care sectors, as well as anyone with a personal need for or interest in developing a more detailed understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
You must already hold a L1 or equivalent English qualification.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All applicants must be at least 19 years of age to enrol for the course and have a good level of English skills to a minimum of Level One standard.

Applicants aged 19-23 are only eligible if they have already achieved a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Please contact us for clarification if required.

Applicants aged 24+ do not require any prior academic qualifications, but do need to meet the required standard of English skills. Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Wets of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland. This course is only Fully Funded if you are over 19 years old, have been living in the UK for 3 years or more, and are not from a devolved area (e.g. Greater Manchester, Liverpool, West of England, West Midlands, Tees Valley, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, London or Greater London).

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course requires the completion and passing of five short tutor-marked online unit assessments. Learners are allocated a course tutor who will mark assessments and who can offer support through the online learning platform.

HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO STUDY EACH WEEK?

The course duration is 8 weeks and will require approximately 4-6 hours of study per week, plus the submission of 5 short online assessments during the course. Course start dates are flexible, but learners are expected to successfully complete the programme within the allocated timescale.

This course attracts funding for eligible students, so please check with the admissions team about your own circumstances.

These courses are free for eligible applicants who successfully complete the course. A fee of £90 will be charged to learners who enrol on the programme but do not complete the course.
