Course overview

This course provides a basic understanding of mental health and its impact on individuals and society. You will explore what mental health means, how it affects people, the ways in which society responds to mental health issues, and how cultural diversity plays a role in mental health awareness.

What will I do?

This course is made up of one unit: ‘Develop an Awareness of Mental Health’, which is divided into four key sections:

  • Section 1: Understanding what is meant by mental health
  • Section 2: The social and personal effects of mental ill health
  • Section 3: How mental health issues are responded to
  • Section 4: The impact of cultural diversity on mental health

You will develop your knowledge through independent study and written assignments, helping you gain confidence in discussing mental health issues.

Once you’ve completed this course, you can progress onto one of our Level 2 qualifications, such as:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Wellbeing Advocacy
  • Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness
  • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health

You need a minimum of Entry Level 3 writing skills.

After submitting your assignment, an assessor will review your work and provide written feedback. You’ll receive a pass or refer grade. If your work is referred, you’ll get guidance on how to improve and resubmit it.

You’ll complete one written assignment, divided into four sections with a total of 19 questions. There are no exams or practical assessments.

Entry requirements

You must already hold a Level 1 or equivalent English qualification.

All applicants must be at least 19 years old as of the 31st of August to enrol for the course and have a good level of English skills to a minimum of Level One standard.

Applicants aged 19-23 are only eligible if they have already achieved a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Please contact us for clarification if required.

Applicants aged 24+ do not require any prior academic qualifications, but do need to meet the required standard of English skills. Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, West of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland.
