Course overview

From finance and HR, to digital marketing and entrepreneurship, there is no denying that the business sector is digitally-focused, versatile and vital to society. Business qualifications encompass a broad selection of essential topics, offering transferable skills such as leadership, problem-solving and communication. They require commitment, passion and most of all the determination to succeed.

What will I do?

Whether you’ve got your sights set on becoming the CEO of your own business or want to work for a local employer, this course will give you a broad understanding of business so that you can progress onto the right path for you. Learning from industry experienced tutors, you will explore topics such as marketing, accounting, human resources, business law and communication, giving you a well-rounded set of skills and knowledge.

Our Business Advanced Course is taught by teachers with real industry experience. You will have tutorials and carry out work experience (at least two days a week), enabling you to experience the industry first hand and prepare for your next steps. This could be finding a job, continuing your studies at university or progressing onto a relevant apprenticeship.

What’s next?

If you want to move into a specialism such as HR, accounting or marketing, you can go on to study a university-level course to become further qualified. You could also find a junior position in your chosen field, or even start up your own business.

We also offer professional certifications, such as AAT (accounting), CIM (marketing) or CIPD (HR), which will increase your chances of progression once in employment. Whatever onwards pathway is right for you, we can help to get you onto the right track.

Our Business Advanced Course is a coursework-based qualification with no exams. The full qualification and units from this course are graded at a pass, merit or distinction.

Entry requirements

To enroll onto the Business Advanced course, you require a 4/C or above in English & Maths plus at least 3 other subjects at a 4/C or above or Level 2 vocational qualifications in relevant subjects.

Frequently asked questions

How will my progress be monitored?

Your progress is monitored through regular one to one Progress Reviews, regular assignments and project work. You will have a Learning Coach who will support you with your studies in a weekly workshop. English and Maths progress will be monitored with regular mock exams and in class targets.

How much will I have to study each week?

You will be timetabled to attend Lessons on 3 days and will spend up to 16.5 hours in the classroom. The other 2 days each week will consist of work experience, enhancements and additional learning designed to support your wider success on the Study Programme—you may be required to attend College or a Work Experience placement in addition to your normal Timetabled days.

Do I need to purchase anything?

You will need normal stationery. Computers are available in College with all specialist software installed—an Office 365 account will be provided
including OneDrive cloud storage.

Application Journey

The application journey starts with researching your options to find the best course for you. From September, you can apply online. College interviews begin in November, giving you a chance to present yourself and learn more about our college. Discovery Days in July allow you to come on campus and get a real taste of college life. In August, you will receive your GCSE results, which are key for finalising your college placement. Enrolment then happens in August and September with your course beginning in September.
