Next Steps - MK College

Next Steps

If you’re a new student at MK College, you may have a few questions up your sleeve. But don’t worry, we’re here to answer them – take a look around this page and click on what’s relevant to you!

How do I get to College?

We have two main campuses, Chaffron Way and Bletchley. Both campuses have excellent public transport links – see below for travel routes and how you can plan your journey.

Click here for further info on planning your route.

Do I need to bring in my own laptop?

In short, no! We have lots of self-issue laptop cabinets for you to use whilst on campus if you decide to not bring your own device into College.

If you do want to bring your own device in however, we have recently upgraded our WiFi which means that it is even easier for you to use it at College. Our study spaces have clear desks so that you can use your own device in a quiet space, and our cafes and canteens have good WiFi coverage if you want to work whilst enjoying a coffee. As a student at Milton Keynes College you have free access to Office365 too which is accessed online in the “cloud”. In addition, you will also have free access to the full Office app product suite that you can download and install on up to 5 devices at home.

What if I need help when I’m in college?

We really hope you settle in straight away, but if you hit a few speed bumps, there will always be someone to talk to. Make a note of the contacts below and you’ll always have someone to turn to. Here at Milton Keynes College, we also work with the Youth Counselling Service and have mental health first aiders and safeguarding officers on-site at all times, so you can be assured of your safety whilst at College.

I am a Parent/Carer. Where can I access more information?

We have a dedicated area on our website for all parents and carers of MK College students which you can find here. This includes details on how to access our Parent Portal along with a contact form should you wish to ask us anything specific.

Where can I find more information about important dates?

You can find all of our term dates here.

What should I bring with me on my first day?

This depends on what course you’re doing and if you’ve been instructed to bring in anything specific by your tutor. Make sure you double-check your offer packs and emails for any additional information that you may have been given – but be sure to bring in the usual items like a notepad, some stationery, and a water bottle.

You should also make sure that you’ve got some lunch or some money to buy some. We have ample places on site where you can purchase food from the refectory, The Brasserie, or vending machines. Check out our Bursaries page to check if you’re entitled to free meals.
