Milton Keynes College celebrates at cultural diversity events

Milton Keynes College recently celebrated its annual Cultural Diversity Day events on 21st and 22nd May 2024, bringing together staff and students for a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity.  

The MK College Cultural Diversity Day featured an array of activities including traditional music and dance performances, art displays, cultural storytelling, and food tastings from different cuisines around the world. Attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the diverse cultures represented and learn more about the customs and traditions that make each culture unique. 

Staff and students were honoured to be joined by several esteemed guests at the special occasion, such as Kurshida Mirza, High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire; Cllr Pete Marland, Leader of Milton Keynes City Council; Gamiel Yafai, author and award-winning Diversity and Inclusion Strategist at Diversity Marketplace; and Ruby Parmar, Chair of Governors at MK College Group.  

The event saw an impressive attendance, demonstrating the community’s strong interest in cultural exchange and mutual understanding. The feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to learn about and celebrate different cultures. 

Sam Abiola and Yasmin Razak, Lecturers at Milton Keynes College and Co-Chairs of the College’s Cultural Diversity Employee Network, commented: “The event was a resounding success, showcasing a rich tapestry of cultural performances, exhibits, and activities that highlighted the unique traditions and heritage of various cultures. 

“Celebrating Cultural Diversity Day was an incredible experience! It was wonderful to see such an ornate display of traditions, arts, and customs around the world. The event highlighted the beauty of our diverse backgrounds and brought us all closer together.
