Extraordinary Experiences
Delivering extraordinary experiences for every student.
At Milton Keynes College, we deliver exceptional, personalised learning experiences that enable every student to achieve their full potential, no matter their circumstances.
A student who would describe her experience at the College as extraordinary is Oshia Samuel-Mitchel, who studied Access to Higher Education – Health Professions.
Oshia said about her decision on where to study, that “I chose to study at Milton Keynes College because it gave me the flexibility around my personal responsibilities”.
Like many students at the College, Oshia had a lot of other commitments around her studies, but the College was there to help: “At the beginning of my course, I endured a severe injury and was balancing working night shifts, looking after my kids and my mum and still being able to complete my assignments. The College offered more support than I could have hoped for and made it very easy for me to achieve the standard required for the course”.
Through Oshia’s challenging times in her personal life, the College’s staff, like Oshia’s tutor Tina Sumpter, were there to help. Tina says “The extraordinary experience that any learner receives at Milton Keynes College is that we care deeply about our students. The most important thing for me is to see learners achieve their personal academic destination, that is to attend university”.
Throughout her time at the College, Oshia said that she felt supported: “Something that stands out for me during my time at Milton Keynes College is the amount of assurance and guidance given to me and how approachable tutors were when I asked for help. They were extremely understanding of my circumstances, and this was a significant moment for me during my course, as I felt valued, listened to and safe”.
Oshia completed her first degree eleven years ago, so took the Access to Higher Education course at the College to support her goal of studying for a Master’s degree in Adult Nursing. Oshia’s commitment and strong work ethic impressed her tutor Tina: “From the moment I met Oshia, her dedication stood out to me because she had focus and commitment to her own personal development”.
Oshia was chosen as the Student of the Year for Higher Education 2025/26, and was then chosen as MK College’s overall Student of the Year at an awards ceremony in May. Tina commented: “Watching Oshia receive her award makes me proud of the job that I do, as well as proud to be part of Milton Keynes College”.
Reflecting on her future, Oshia said: “Now I’m looking forward to studying a master’s degree in adult nursing and I am thankful to Milton Keynes College for refreshing my academic skills and preparing me for my journey ahead”.
