The Level 1 Award in Moving Image is designed for anyone with an interest in film, television, or other forms of moving image media. Whether you are just starting out or have some experience, this course will help you develop the basic skills needed to create and edit moving image sequences for different purposes.
What will I do?
During the course, you’ll take part in both practical and theory-based sessions to understand how moving images are created and used across different types of media. You will learn how to generate ideas, plan your projects, produce footage, and edit your work using professional software.
You will develop the following key skills:
- Understanding how moving images are used in different media products
- Generating and planning ideas using mind maps, storyboards, and flowcharts
- Recording footage, using animation techniques, and working with asset libraries
- Learning video editing techniques using editing software
- Reviewing your work and making improvements based on feedback
You’ll work on practical projects that give you experience in creating content for things like short films, adverts, and television. The course includes guided workshops and regular feedback to help you build confidence and improve your creative work.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through your digital portfolio, which includes all your creative work from the course. There are no exams. Assessment is based on the quality and development of your projects and your ability to reflect and improve on feedback.
How much will I have to study each week?
You’ll attend college for 3 hours per week for hands-on sessions. You should also spend around 1.5 hours per week on independent study to document and reflect on your creative work.
