Community Leadership
Be the civic anchor that drives inclusion and regeneration.
Community Leadership reflects our commitment to being more than an education provider. As a trusted civic partner, Milton Keynes College Group works alongside charities, employers, public services and community organisations to create opportunities, tackle local challenges and improve outcomes for the people and communities we serve. By building strong partnerships and using our expertise, resources and influence for social good, we help create a stronger, more inclusive and more connected Milton Keynes.
Our partnership with MK SNAP demonstrates the impact of this approach. Through collaboration, shared experiences and meaningful opportunities for learners, we are helping to build confidence, develop skills and create pathways that support inclusion, independence and active participation in community life.
Milton Keynes College is at the heart of the community. We work in partnership with charities, community groups and a wide range of other organisations to create meaningful opportunities, support inclusion, and drive positive social impact.
One of the partnerships we’re proud of is with MK SNAP (Special Needs Advancement Programme), a local charity that provides a programme of learning, life skills, work preparation and opportunities for work to adults with learning disabilities, to help them develop the skills they need to realise their potential.
Through this fantastic community partnership, the College’s Inclusive Learning students gain valuable work experience and take part in projects with MK SNAP that help develop their skills, confidence and readiness for the workplace.
Current MK SNAP learner and former MK College student Heidi Green-Hurst said that her time at the College and working at the Brasserie restaurant; “inspired me to come in and do a similar thing here. I love meeting people and serving them at the café. It’s improved my confidence – I wasn’t always very good socially and with meeting new people before I came here, so I learned how to handle things better”.
Claire O’Neill, Head of Enterprise at MK SNAP, commented on the partnership with MK College:
“We’ve been able to bring together our communities and work together for the benefit of both the College’s students and our own learners. At the College in the Community Day this year, we hosted the College’s Inclusive Learning choir in our café to perform and entertain our learners, staff and guests, and college staff and students volunteered in our garden to make it ready for our learners to use and benefit from”.
Community Leadership is about recognising that creating fairer futures cannot be achieved by any one organisation alone. Through partnerships such as MK SNAP, Milton Keynes College Group is bringing together the expertise, resources and networks needed to address local challenges and create lasting social impact. By strengthening community connections, supporting civic participation and working alongside organisations that share our values, we are helping to shape a fairer, more inclusive and more resilient future for Milton Keynes and beyond.
