Mark Fell – Welcome Blog

Whether you’re a new or returning family, I’m excited to welcome you to MK College.

As we begin this academic year, our mission to Transform Lives Through Learning remains at the heart of everything we do. Since the College opened its doors in 1982, we’ve successfully taught many thousands of learners, all working toward their individual goals. Your young people are now part of this continuing story of achievement and growth.

This summer brought remarkable achievements that I’m proud to share with you. Over 500 students who had previously struggled with English or maths achieved GCSEs at grade 4 or above, the equivalent of the old C grade. These qualifications are vital to their future careers and will open many doors for them. We’re delighted to help our learners succeed and take their next steps in education and employment. This success shows their hard work and our tutors’ dedication.

Our T Level and BTEC students also achieved outstanding outcomes, with many progressing directly to university, apprenticeships, or full-time employment. These results demonstrate our commitment to delivering industry-relevant qualifications that help young people become work ready. We’ve also had a positive first year of our new A Level provision. We are looking forward to our first full cohort of A Level learners receiving their results next summer.

These successes belong to our entire college community: students, staff, families, and partners working together toward our shared vision of building fairer futures.

This year, we will continue to pursue excellence in line with our values. We want to give students inspiring, innovative learning experiences that put them at the centre of everything we do. We have more than 200 courses taught by people who have real world experience in industry. That means students learn from real experience, not just textbooks. Students come to us from all backgrounds, and we make sure everyone feels like they belong.

Our partnerships with local businesses and organisations, such as Silverstone, continue to grow. These create real opportunities for work experience, mentorship, and career pathways. These partnerships are particularly important, as they give your young people real advantages when they’re looking for jobs or further training.

Your young people will get the best out of their time here when we’re all pulling in the same direction. We ask them to work hard, attend consistently, and grab hold of the opportunities we put their way. What they’ll get from us is excellent teaching, help whenever they need it, and a college where everyone can do well.

If something’s on your mind – good or bad – please get in touch. We want to hear from you. Our staff are here to help your young people, but we’re also here for you as parents when you need support or guidance.

Regular updates about progress, upcoming events, and opportunities will come through email, our website and this half-termly newsletter, and we encourage you to stay engaged with college life through our social media and events.

There’s plenty happening over the coming months – careers fairs, curriculum trips and visits, and events with the local community.

You’ll get separate information about events for parents and families. My biggest priority this year is making sure every student leaves the College ready for whatever comes next – whether that’s university, an apprenticeship, or going straight into work.

When we work together like this, we really can change young people’s lives through education and give them the better futures they deserve.

Thank you for choosing MK College and for the trust you place in us. I’m looking forward to the year ahead.
