Purposeful Growth

Milton Keynes College Group is growing with purpose, investing in modern, sustainable facilities that enhance learning experiences, support future skills, and contribute to a carbon-neutral future.

With the increasing demands for education places that a growing population in Milton Keynes brings, it’s vital that we as a Further Education provider meet these and support learners with seizing the opportunities available in our vibrant and dynamic city, as well as preparing ourselves for a low-carbon future.

Liana Sinclair, Group Director of Estates at Milton Keynes College Group details the initial stage of the current estates renovations plan: “As part of phase 1 of the estates strategy, we’ve renovated the Motor Vehicle workshop area. We have used Inclusive By Design principles to ensure there is accessibility for all, creating better classrooms and using features such as sound proofing to enhance learner experience. We’ve worked with some of our key partners across the region, which has been particularly useful for the Motor Vehicle workshop as Milton Keynes is known for our Formula 1 racing”.

Liana continues: “As part of phase 2 for this year, we have continued working on the carbon offset project and we have used the Salix funding (government-backed energy‑efficiency and decarbonisation funding) to support with this. This has included the installation of the air source heat pumps, which is decarbonising the Motor Vehicle workshop. We have also used cutting-edge technology like Genius Hubs (a smart heating system that allows individual room temperature control, energy efficiency, and remote management). In the past four years, we have dropped around 40% of our carbon emissions”.

It’s clear that our Purposeful Growth principle is being put into action across the College Group. We will ensure that we don’t just see growth for growth’s sake – we will expand to meet the needs of our learners and communities in Milton keynes and beyond, whilst ensuring that we look after our planet and prepare for a more sustainable future.
