Course overview
The purpose of the Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting is to provide you with the specialist knowledge and skills required to help you to progress to employment in an accounting or finance role, or to further study in accountancy and finance.
What will I do?
This qualification is a progression route for students who have achieved the Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. It’s also suitable for those who have already started their journey studying a related subject and are looking to develop their skills in accounting, or for those who have already started working in finance and who have a need and desire to attain formal recognition of their skills.
The Level 3 Diploma in Accounting is suitable for adult students, career changers and 16–19 year old students in full-time education seeking to develop their knowledge and skills in this occupational area.
What’s next?
On successful completion of this qualification to a good standard, students may progress to the Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting. From there, university, CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW are all possibilities depending on your aspiration and your specialisms

You will have been successful in your Level 2 studies and proved yourself to be a logical thinker, who can solve problems apply your knowledge to the standard required. Do not underestimate the time you will need for your classes and to practice at home. We are very flexible, we understand you may be working, have family commitments and although you want to improve your job prospects, time is scarce. So, our commitment to you is that if you want to pass and are prepared to put in the work, then we will do all in our power to support you in achieving your goals.
Entry requirements
You will have successfully achieved a Level 2 AAT Certificate in Accounting (or equivalent). You may also have some practical experience but that is not mandatory.
Course highlights
The course covers a range of essential and complex accounting tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns.
This qualification comprises four mandatory units:
- Business Awareness
- Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements
- Management Accounting Techniques
- Tax
Key themes have also been introduced throughout the suite of accounting qualifications including technology, ethics, sustainability and communication.
How will my progress be monitored?
Your tutor will monitor your progress in partnership with you and you have the support you need to achieve success. It is not always about being first in your exams or always being top of the class, it is about understanding what you are learning and being able to apply it to the best of your ability. That’s what your tutor will help you with.
How will I be assessed?
There is one online exam for each of the mandatory modules. If you don’t make the pass mark, then you are able to resit the exam at a later date. Prior to each exam, your tutor will set you mock exams, so you are confident and prepared for the real thing.
How much will I have to study each week?
You will need to spend at least the same amount of time outside class on your studies as you do in college. Maybe more near your exam. It is a bi commitment but worth the effort.

Additional information
We offer an option for a daytime class or an evening class. You can discuss your preference with your tutor at interview. The majority of classes are held face to face on campus at Chaffron Way, however some sessions may be held online using our TEAMS platform.
