Funding boost for adult training in key sectors at MK College Group thanks to City Council
Milton Keynes City Council is giving MK College Group £410,000 in a boost for adult education. The money will go towards funding courses in target sectors of the local economy and adults living in the city are being urged to take a look to see if there are opportunities for them. It’s estimated about 350 new learners will benefit, and the subjects available include Digital Technology, Early Years and Education, Health and Social Care, Business and Professional and Construction.
Laura Black is the Group Director for Adult Education, and she says, “This partnership with the city council will be of genuine benefit to many people in Milton Keynes. It’s an important boost to our funding at a time when money is tight, and it will provide vital training, much needed in priority sectors in the region. Anything that increases opportunities for local people has to be a good thing.
“At the College Group, we’re determined to create Inclusive Futures for all of our students – tackling barriers to learning and widening access through inclusive pathways that support all students to engage, progress and succeed is part of our mission to shape Fairer Futures for All. And having the funding to offer more places to adult students will help us to do just that”.
Councillor Peter Cannon, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at the City Council says, “Our adult learning team plays a vital role in helping residents gain new skills and improve their career prospects. By working with MK College, we’re ensuring residents can get the right support and training they need to succeed, while helping local employers find a home-grown skilled workforce. We will continue to provide a broad range of high-quality courses, from essential English and maths skills through to specialist training in sectors that are important to our local economy”.
