Charity support in 2023
MK College Group raised more than £3,400 for local charity in 2023
Colleagues and learners at MK College Group are celebrating after raising a record £3,481 for their partner charity, St Mark’s Meals MK, in 2023. This is a record amount since the College Group first partnered with St Mark’s Meals in 2021 and is a significant increase from 2022’s fundraising total of £1,400.
The amount was raised through a range of activities during the year, including a number of staff and student-organised quiz nights, Tasty Tuesday events organised by our Commis Chef apprentices in the College’s Brasserie restaurant, staff takeovers of The Brasserie menu for fundraising lunches and three members of staff – including the College Group’s CEO and Group Principal Sally Alexander – taking part in the CEO Sleepout event that was hosted at the College’s Bletchley campus.
St Mark’s Meals MK provide dinner kit boxes to schools and children’s centres all across Milton Keynes so that any teacher can give a Meals box to a child when they see that they are going hungry. 18,000 local children are living in poverty right now, and charities like St Mark’s Meals are working hard to make sure that no children in Milton Keynes are going to bed hungry.
Rebecca Myrie, Head of Community Engagement at Milton Keynes College Group, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the total that our colleagues and learners raised for St Mark’s Meals MK in 2023. St Mark’s Meals do incredible work in our city, supporting families and children who are living in poverty and providing them with meal kits that ensure that they don’t go hungry. This fantastic charity’s work is very much aligned with our mission to deliver Fairer Futures for our communities and we’re extremely proud of our colleagues and learners for their commitment to supporting local organisations like St Mark’s Meals”.
Angie Row from St Mark’s Meals MK commented: “It’s so good to work together with Milton Keynes College who understand our mission to make sure that no child goes to bed hungry. Their creativity in the way that they fundraise, with a range of activities organised by both staff and students, has kept their learners and staff engaged in their support which has helped raise awareness as well as funding for St Mark’s Meals. Because of the money raised by MK College we can provide boxes for 500 families creating more than 2,000 plates of dinner in homes where it is most needed.”
