MK College Launches FREE Summer Short Courses to Boost Skills and Inspire Lifelong Learning

Milton Keynes College is proud to announce an exciting lineup of FREE summer short courses, open to all members of the community and designed to help learners develop new skills, explore fresh interests, and take the next steps in their personal or professional journeys.

Delivered by our team of expert tutors, these courses span a variety of high-demand and creative subjects and will be hosted across our Bletchley and Chaffron Way campuses. Whether you’re interested in digital design, AI, trades, or wellbeing, there’s something for everyone.

Construction & Trade Skills

Introduction to Painting & Decorating:

Gain practical skills and techniques to start your journey in the painting and decorating trade. This course will build a strong foundation for progression to higher-level training and employment opportunities.

What you’ll learn:

  • Surface Preparation
  • Types of paint and application techniques
  • Wallpapering and Decorative Techniques
  • Spray Painting
  • Different technologies used in Painting and Decorating e.g. Apps, colour matching tools etc.

Starts: Tuesday, 10th June | Chaffron Way Campus
When: Tuesdays | 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm | 5 weeks

Introduction to Bricklaying Skills
Build the essential skills needed for a career in construction. This hands-on course covers the basics of bricklaying and site safety, helping you gain confidence and prepare for employment or progression to Level 1 Bricklaying.

What you’ll learn:

  • Safe use of basic tools and materials
  • Health and safety essentials
  • Basic bricklaying techniques
  • Constructing a simple foundation
  • Building and finishing a small wall
  • Building a small project

Creative & Digital Skills

Intermediate Adobe Illustrator on Mac

This course is aimed at learners who already have a basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator on a Mac and want to take their skills to the next level.

  • Advanced tool techniques
  • Workflow optimisation
  • 3D effects
  • Ai-powered features

An Introduction to Apple Mac Computers and Adobe Photoshop:

This beginner-friendly course is designed for those who want to develop their digital skills and learn the basics of using an Apple Mac and Adobe Photoshop. You will gain hands-on experience using an Apple iMac and Adobe Photoshop.

What you’ll learn:

  • Navigating an Apple iMac computer
  • Exploring basic tools in Photoshop
  • Learn how to create and edit images

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (Daytime):

Discover what AI really is, how to use it safely, and how it can support your everyday life. This short course explores practical ways to use AI as your assistant and tutor.

  • Session 1: What is AI? Mythbusting and safe use
  • Session 2: Using AI as your Personal Assistant
  • Session 3: Using AI as a Personal Tutor

Starts: 12th June | Tech Park, Bletchley Campus
When: 3 x 3-hour sessions – on Thursday 12th June, Wednesday 18th June and Thursday 26th June from 9.30am – 12.30pm

This 4-week course explores key aspects of healthy ageing, offering practical advice to support your physical, mental, and digital well-being.

What you’ll learn:

  • Healthy eating habits and nutrition for ageing well
  • Supporting mental health and emotional resilience
  • The role of exercise in maintaining mobility and strength
  • Preventative strategies for age-related health conditions
  • Staying safe online and understanding cyber-crime risks

When: Thursdays | 10:00 am – 11:30 am | 4 weeks
