Course overview

T Levels are two-year qualifications designed for students aged 16-18 who have completed their GCSEs. They offer a great alternative to A levels, apprenticeships or study programmes by combining classroom learning with real-world experience.

During this course, you’ll spend time learning practical skills, developing your knowledge and completing a 315-hour industry placement with an employer. This hands-on experience will help you stand out when applying for jobs or universities.

Please note: T Levels are only available for students that will be 16-18 whilst studying the qualification.

What will I do?

In your first year, you will focus on the foundations of marketing, sales and business skills. You’ll cover topics such as:

  • Market research and competitor analysis
  • Planning marketing strategies
  • Sustainability and green business practices
  • Understanding business laws and project management

In the second year, you will focus on developing industry-level marketing knowledge and skills. You’ll cover topics such as:

  • Designing and delivering real or mock marketing campaigns
  • Analysing data to evaluate how successful a campaign is
  • Presenting ideas to employers or clients

This course is delivered through a mix of classroom lessons, practical workshops, and real-world business projects. You’ll also spend time learning directly in a workplace through your industry placement.

What’s next?

You will have plenty of options, including:

  • Jobs: Begin your career in marketing, sales or procurement roles.
  • University: Study for a degree in business, marketing or related fields.
  • Apprenticeships: Start a Level 4 Marketing or Market Research Executive Apprenticeship.

Is it for me?

This course is a great fit for learners who are interested in marketing, sales and procurement. You will need to be confident in essential skills such as communication, teamwork and time management.

  • Year 2: A synoptic controlled assessment lasting three to four months.

Expect around 21 hours of study each week, including classroom lessons, tutorials and directed study. Additional time will be required for your industry placement.

Work experience is a key part of the course! You’ll complete a mandatory 315-hour placement with a business, focusing on marketing, sales or procurement. You’ll gain valuable hands-on experience with local employers, learning what it’s like to work in the industry.

T Levels are new two-year, Level 3 study programmes that will follow the study of GCSEs and Technical Awards at Key Stage 4 and offer an attractive alternative to A Levels and Apprenticeships. T Levels will combine classroom theory, practical learning and a minimum 315 hours of industry placement with an employer to make sure students have real experience of the workplace.

The Technical Qualification (TQ) is the main classroom-based element of the T Level and will see students learning from a curriculum that has been shaped by industry experts. During the two-year programme, students will learn the core knowledge that underpins each industry and they will also develop occupationally specific skills that will allow them to enter skilled employment within a specific occupation.

The T Level programmes have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so the content will meet the needs of industry and prepare students for work. They provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door to highly skilled employment, an Apprenticeship or higher level study, including university.
