Course overview
Autism is a condition which presents itself as a wide spectrum of disorders, and is prevalent through the UK. People who have autistic spectrum disorders can be affected differently, with cases ranging from mild to severe.
What will I do?
Throughout this qualification, you will gain an understanding of the spectrum of autistic disorders and how they can affect people in a variety of ways, as well as exploring the importance of using a person-centred approach to provide support. You will also understand how to use appropriate communication skills and positive behaviour to encourage individuals with autistic spectrum conditions to live fulfilling and independent lives
This course is split into six manageable units:
Unit 1: Introduction to autism .
Unit 2: Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism
Unit 3: Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism
Unit 4: Sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism
Unit 5: Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism
Unit 6: Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives

This course is delivered online using our learning platform Equal. Students must have full use of either a PC or laptop. You will need access to the Internet.

How will I be assessed?
This course requires the completion and passing of six short tutor marked online unit assessments. Learners are allocated a course tutor who will mark assessments and are able to offer support through the online learning platform.
How much will I have to study each week?
The course duration is 8 weeks and will requires approximately 4 – 6 hours of study per week plus the submission of 6 online assessments during the course. Course start dates are flexible, but learners are expected to successfully complete the programme within the allocated timescale.

Entry requirements
You must already hold a Level 2 or equivalent English qualification.
All applicants must be at least 19 years old as of the 31st of August to enrol for the course and have a good level of English skills to a minimum of Level One standard.
Applicants aged 19-23 are only eligible if they have already achieved a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Please contact us for clarification if required.
Applicants aged 24+ do not require any prior academic qualifications, but do need to meet the required standard of English skills. Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, West of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland.
