Course overview

The Certificate in Understanding Autism is designed for those who wish to develop their understanding of autism and the principles of supporting individuals with autism. Different spectrums of autistic disorders and how they can affect people in a variety of ways are explored, as well as the importance of positive communication methods and using a person-centred approach to support individuals.

This Online Understanding Autism course comprises 6 units:

  • Unit 1 – Introduction to autism
  • Unit 2 – Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism
  • Unit 3 – Communicating and social interaction in individuals with autism
  • Unit 4 – Sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism
  • Unit 5 – Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism
  • Unit 6 – Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives

By undertaking this understanding autism course, you will gain formal recognition by obtaining a nationally recognised qualification. Is it for me?

Our online Understanding Autism course is designed for practitioners working with adults and children across the autism spectrum, and for those working in schools, further and higher education, care, support or therapeutic services.

Our understanding autism course duration is 10 weeks, and requires 4-6 hours of study per week. Course start dates are flexible, but learners are expected to successfully complete the programme of study within the allocated timescale.

Learners will receive a nationally recognised qualification by successfully completing this course. The Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism is awarded by TQUK.

The course requires two assessments to be completed and passed to achieve the qualification. Students are allocated a tutor who will mark their assessments, and can be contacted by telephone or email if required.

Entry requirements

You must already hold a Level 1 or equivalent English qualification.

All applicants must be at least 19 years old as of the 31st of August to enrol for the course and have a good level of English skills to a minimum of Level One standard.

Applicants aged 19-23 are only eligible if they have already achieved a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Please contact us for clarification if required.

Applicants aged 24+ do not require any prior academic qualifications, but do need to meet the required standard of English skills. Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, West of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland.
