Did you know that one in four British adults experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem each year?  The most common is mixed anxiety and depression, but there are many other issues which have a huge impact on a person’s life and the people around them.

Anyone who works around people with mental health problems needs to understand each condition fully and will benefit from understanding the meaning, causes, effects, symptoms and management of the condition. This course covers all of these aspects.

What will I do?

This course is split into thirteen manageable units:

Unit 1: Understand mental health

Unit 2: Understanding stress

Unit 3: Understanding anxiety

Unit 4: Understanding phobias

Unit 5: Understanding depression

Unit 6: Understanding post-natal depression

Unit 7: Understanding bipolar disorder

Unit 8: Understanding schizophrenia

Unit 9: Understanding dementia

Unit 10: Understanding eating disorders

Unit 11: Understanding ADHD

Unit 12: Understanding Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Unit 13: Understanding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

What’s next?

By undertaking this course, you will gain formal recognition by obtaining a nationally recognised qualification. This will enable you to further your own continuous professional development, which could support you in improving your career prospects. You can also progress onto further qualifications.

Is it for me?

This course would benefit anyone currently working in, or having experience in working in this area and want to increase their knowledge of mental health problems, the factors that cause mental ill-health and the ways that mental health can be managed.

This course is delivered online using our learning platform equal. Students must have full use of either a PC or Laptop. You will need access to the Internet. You must already hold a L1 or equivalent English qualification.

The course duration is 12 weeks and will requires approximately 4 – 6 hours of study per week plus the submission of 13 online unit assessments during the course. Course start dates are flexible, but learners are expected to successfully complete the programme within the allocated timescale.

Learners will receive a nationally recognised qualification by successfully completing this course. The Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems is awarded by TQUK.

This course requires the completion and passing of thirteen short tutor marked online unit assessments.  Learners are allocated a course tutor who will mark assessments and are able to offer support through the online learning platform.

Entry requirements

You must already hold a Level 1 or equivalent English qualification.

All applicants must be at least 19 years old as of the 31st of August to enrol for the course and have a good level of English skills to a minimum of Level One standard.

Applicants aged 19-23 are only eligible if they have already achieved a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Please contact us for clarification if required.

Applicants aged 24+ do not require any prior academic qualifications, but do need to meet the required standard of English skills. Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, West of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland.
