Course overview
This course builds on your existing motor vehicle skills and gives you the knowledge to safely carry out repair and maintenance work on electric and hybrid vehicles.
What will I do?
You’ll develop advanced skills to safely inspect, repair, and replace high-voltage components in electric and hybrid vehicles. You’ll take part in hands-on workshop sessions and classroom-based learning to build your confidence and technical knowledge.
Topics include:
- Working safely on high-voltage systems
- Diagnosing and fixing faults
- Removing and replacing high-voltage components
- Using specialist tools and equipment
- Industry best practices for EV and hybrid repair
What’s next?
Once you’ve finished this Level 3 course, you can go on to:
- Level 4 Award in EV/Hybrid Diagnostics and Repair – for complex fault finding and specialist roles
- Employment in garages, dealerships, or specialist EV service centres
- Starting your own mobile repair service or business

Entry requirements
- A Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance & Repair qualification
- A Level 2 Hybrid/EV qualification
- At least two GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above
- Be 18 or over

How much will I have to study each week?
You’ll be in college 2 days a week, with 7.5 hours per day of learning. Most of your work is done during class time, with minimal extra studying needed outside of college.
