Course overview

Our Higher National qualification has been designed to reflect the increasing need for high-quality professional and technical education. It will provide you with a clear line of sight to employment and potential entry to a degree at Level 6.

What will I do?

This Qualification is mapped to the Engineering Manufacturing Technician Occupational Standard.

The Units Studied are:
Unit 4001: Engineering Design
Unit 4002: Engineering Maths
Unit 4004: Managing a Professional Engineering Project
Unit 4006: Mechatronics
Unit 4008: Mechanical Principles

Whilst studying on the course you will conduct both group and independent research tasks and complete projects on different areas of engineering such as project management and project engineering.
You can expect to develop your skills and knowledge of manufacturing processes, fluid power and introduce methods such as Lean and Quality Improvement/Assurance.

Alongside this you will grow your skills in engineering mathematics, design and application of engineering science, meaning your skillset will be up to date with the current industry standards.

What’s next?

Upon successful completion of this course, you can enrol on the HND* in Engineering and gain a Level 5 qualification. Alternatively, you could seek employment in the industry in a junior position. Your tutors will support you in this and advise you on any applications.

*Successful enrolment on the HND will be based on performance on the HNC.

The level of entry into any subsequent degree will be based on your outcome and profile on the HND and the ongoing university entry requirement. Final year top-up cannot be guaranteed.
