Course overview
In the last few years, there has been a 24% rise in jobs in this sector, due to the demand for more and more content. Careers in this sector cover anything from camera operators, to animators, to directors. The opportunity for progression is huge, with TV and film being one of the most globally dominating industries. The UK film sector contributes approximately £1.3bn to the economy, and has the third largest consumer market worldwide for filmed entertainment.

What will I do?
From learning how to use industry standard film production equipment in our television production studio, to animation and drawing storyboards, you can expect to graduate as a well-rounded producer, director, and media specialist.
Our Advanced media production course will allow you to learn from tutors with extensive industry experience, you will gain the required studio skills in editing and recording sound and footage. You will learn all about animation for media production, including coming up with concepts for storyboards. To support this knowledge development, you will also experience life in the industry through work experience and visits to studio-based TV shows and expos. This industry experience will be enhanced through live projects commissioned via employers.
There is a key focus on work experience in both years of the course, to ensure you develop employability skills and can apply them in a work environment. We have a dedicated team to support you with work experience and opportunities for enhanced work placements, where you will work with a company for a number of weeks.
What’s next?
You will gain a host of transferable skills throughout your course, meaning your next steps can lead you to many different paths. You could move on to study a higher education course, either at MK College or at university, including subjects such as TV production, animation or journalism.
You could want to seek an apprenticeship in the sector, meaning you’ll be able to earn a wage whilst still learning and gaining new qualifications.
Alternatively, you may decide to use the contacts you’ve gained throughout your course to head straight into the industry, as a junior researcher, runner, or camera person.

Have you always had a fascination with media in its various forms, from TV, film and digital? Are you creative and do you enjoy working with others? If so, this broad- based Media course could be for you as it offers an introduction to a range of disciplines and practices from within the industry.
You must have creative flair and have a technical mind, as you will need to learn to use a variety of equipment to a high standard. You must also be able to work well in a team, adapting to take on different roles as required.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including Maths and English.
