Course overview

This Level 1 Award in Carpentry is a practical course that introduces basic carpentry and joinery skills. You’ll also learn the health and safety requirements for working in construction.

What will I do?

You will learn through practical workshop sessions, including:

  • Health and safety in the workplace
  • Measuring, cutting and assembling timber
  • Safe use of hand tools and portable power tools
  • Basic carpentry skills

After completing this course, you could:

  • Move on to further learning at a higher level

This course is suitable if you enjoy practical work, are happy to follow safety rules, and can work both independently and as part of a group.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements and no previous experience is needed.

  • Practical carpentry and joinery training

Your progress will be checked against set milestones throughout the course.

You’ll complete two practical carpentry and joinery assessments with feedback provided.

One evening per week, from 6.00pm to 9.00pm.
