Course overview

Thinking about a job in finance but not sure yet?  This 12 week course will give you the chance to develop skills that you can take with you no matter whether you decide to stay in finance or try your hand at something else.

What will I do?

You will study one module, Bookkeeping Fundamentals which will give you a sound overview of the basics of the role of bookkeeper.

What’s next?

The skills you will develop can lead to employment in junior or supporting administrative roles in companies across a wide range of sectors, for example, as a:

  • Trainee bookkeeper
  • Accounts administrator
  • Billing/payments administrator/coordinator
  • Accounts junior
  • Accounts receivable/payable assistant.

If you want to go on to more study, many students progress to the level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting.  From there you can progress to Level 3 and  to L4 AAT qualifications if you are aiming to the full professional accounting qualification.

Is it for me?

This course is suitable for people looking for basic bookkeeping skills to help them  in their own business.  Or as an entry to a higher qualification in accounting.

You need to be flexible, hardworking and not afraid to ask questions. There is a lot packed into 12 weeks so you will need to be organised in your approach to your studies

Entry requirements

There are no specific qualifications, but you do need to confident working with numbers and in your written and spoken English.

This is short and packed course that will keep you busy. You will work alongside other students keen to acquire the fundamentals of bookkeeping and will look at the need for accuracy of financial information and the key role played by a bookkeeper.

Your tutor will have regular discussions with you and is there to help support you in your learning.

There is one 90 minute online exam at the end of your course. You will have plenty of support and will be confident before you sit the exam.

You will cover a lot in the class and will need to revise and practice what you have learned before your next lesson so you will need a few hours each week to do this.

AAT qualifications are universally respected and internationally recognised. Organisations hire AAT qualified members for their knowledge, skills, diligence and enthusiasm because AAT represents the highest standards of professionalism.

In short, an AAT qualification is a route to some of the most in-demand skills in the world and provides our students and members with a professional status to be proud of.

There are two options for this course, a daytime class or an evening class. You can discuss this with your tutor at interview.

The majority of classes are face to face at our Chaffron Way campus but some sessions may be held online.

There are a variety of ways in which you can get help with fees and funding while studying. Get advice on applying for funding and assessing your eligibility for financial aid here.
