INTRODUCTION

UAL Level 3 Applied General Diploma and Extended Diploma in Art & Design (Graphic Design)

Graphic design is everywhere you look – from billboard advertising to the menu of your favourite restaurant – and the industry is thriving. If you are a creative, visual and practical person, a Graphic Design Course can set you up for a very rewarding career.

Graphic Designers use an in-depth understanding of advertising and composition to make sure a product or message really stands out, and you too will have the chance to develop the skills and contextual understanding to succeed in this fast-paced industry.

What will I do

A Graphic Design course will help you to develop your technical and creative skills, whilst also focusing on your future career. As part of your course you will:

  • Learn to use industry-standard software, including Adobe Suite, which will be required in the workplace
  • Work on real live projects and design briefs
  • Choose from a variety of work experience opportunities, such as with local printers or media marketing companies
  • Have the chance to exhibit your work at the end of year Summer Showcase
  • Learn from teachers with solid industry experience, who will share their wealth of knowledge and contacts
  • Be surrounded by like-minded peers, who are just as passionate about their Graphic Design course as you are

What’s next?

As part of your graphic design course, you’ll work on live briefs and undertake work experience. This will not only help you build industry contacts but also enhance your portfolio of work, which will be crucial to show off your skills to future employers or clients.

Most Graphic Design roles require a Higher Education qualification, so you could progress on to the HNC or HND here at the College after this Graphic Design course or go to university.

Is it for me?

Have you got a creative eye? Are you able to challenge conventions? You must have impeccable attention to detail and be highly imaginative to continually come up with fresh ideas. To join a Graphic Design Course, you must have a curious nature, be open to learning new things and have fantastic communication skills. Patience, reliability and determination are key traits of every successful graphic designer.
