Course overview
The Entry Level Award in Progression is a short, supportive course designed for adults who want to ease into education. With no exams and a relaxed learning environment, you’ll explore essential subjects like English, Maths and Digital Skills while developing the confidence and study habits needed for future courses.
What will I do?
You’ll take part in a variety of activities that introduce key subjects such as English, Maths and basic Digital Skills. You’ll also develop essential learning habits to help you succeed in future courses.
Topics and skills include:
- Study techniques and independent learning
- Working effectively with others
- Basic digital and IT skills
- Personal development and goal setting
- An introduction to adult English and Maths
You’ll be supported by experienced tutors in a friendly, small-group environment.
What’s next?
After completing this course, you can progress onto one of our exam-based adult skills courses starting in November.

This course is ideal for you if:
- You want to return to education but need a gentle start
- You’re not sure which subject to study yet
- You want to gain confidence before joining an exam-based course
Please note: If English is not your first language, you may be more suited to one of our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses.
Entry requirements
You must:
- Be aged 19 or over on 31st August 2025
- Be confident using spoken and written English

How will my progress be monitored?
Your tutor will give you regular feedback during sessions to help you understand what to focus on and how you’re progressing.
How will I be assessed?
There are no formal assessments. Your progress will be recognised through your participation, engagement, and personal development.
How much will I have to study each week?
You’ll attend college for one 2-hour session each week, with around 1 hour of independent work to complete between sessions.
How can I pay for my course?
There are a variety of ways in which you can get help with fees and funding while studying. Get advice on applying for funding and assessing your eligibility for financial aid here.
