Augustina – SCIoT Learner

I was born in Ghana but moved to Italy when I was 19 years old where I got married and had 2 children. In 2015 we moved to England where I completed a Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Further study in Health Care.  I went on to complete a Level 3 Certificate in Computer Science as this subject has always been of interest to me.  I juggled my studies with childcare and was pregnant with my third child, which wasn’t always easy but worth it in the end. 

I joined the South Central Institute of Technology in 2020 to study an HNC in Digital Technologies (Cyber Security Pathway) – then the pandemic hit.  All learning went online but staff were great and made the course content really accessible and were always there to support and offer help if needed.  I achieved my HNC and decided to stay another year to gain the Higher National Diploma.  I have really enjoyed the employer talks and found the experience of companies like Microsoft, McAfee and Hewlett Packard to be an invaluable insight into the world of work.  The tutors are all very friendly and helpful and are always on hand to help with any questions or issues that I may have.

I have found the whole experience of studying Digital Technologies with the SCIoT to be a really positive one and

have learnt that there are no obstacles that can stand in your way if you really want something.

If I have achieved my HND after a 10 year gap in education, whilst looking after 3 small children, taking English and Maths courses and learning English grammar on the way, then this proves that you can achieve anything you set your mind to, especially with the support you get from the SCIoT.
