MK College Group’s progress with Climate Action Plan celebrated in first annual report

Milton Keynes College Group has published its first annual report on the progress against
the ten aims set out in its Climate Action Plan (CAP), which it launched in January 2025. The
College Group’s CAP was launched to address key environmental challenges identified by
its staff members, students, governors and communities.

The ten aims set out in the CAP include improving resilience to climate change, embedding
sustainability into curriculum and continuous professional development, raising awareness
through partnerships and communications, decarbonising our estates and monitoring
indirect emissions, minimising waste and adopting responsible purchasing practices, and
increasing biodiversity on campus.

Jason Mansell, Chief Operating Officer at MK College Group, said: “Students and staff at MK
College Group have embraced the move towards a more sustainable campus with
enthusiasm, and the momentum has not gone unnoticed in campus life. Since the launch,
we have appointed a student sustainability officer, hosted workshops and events, and
provided new Continued Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for staff.

“We have set in motion new internal targets and partnerships, and the College’s estates
have been subject to decarbonisation works and energy efficiency improvements. This has
been accompanied by a number of staff- and student-led projects through participation in the
Planet Earth Games and the College in the Community Day.

“Going forward, our focus will be on delivering further emissions reductions through energy
efficiency measures and awareness campaigns, embedding sustainability into teaching and
learning through partnerships and new course offerings, and further improving our
sustainability communications to our college community to celebrate successes and
encourage even greater engagement.

“Together, we remain committed to turning ambition into action – driving progress toward a
greener future and inspiring our community to lead the way.”
