Course overview
This practical course introduces you to the basics of painting and decorating. You will learn how to prepare surfaces properly, apply paint and wall coverings, and work safely using industry-standard methods. It is a great starting point if you want to develop trade skills for work, further study, or home projects.
What will I do?
You will take part in hands-on workshop sessions where you learn core painting and decorating skills, including:
- Preparing surfaces by cleaning, filling, sanding and priming
- Applying paint using brushes and rollers
- Creating neat, professional finishes
- Hanging plain wallpaper and lining paper
- Cutting in around edges, ceilings, woodwork and fittings
- Following health and safety guidance used in construction
You will learn through practical tasks, tutor demonstrations and guided projects to help build your confidence and technique.

You will attend college one evening per week from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
There is minimal study required outside of class time.
