Course overview

It’s a beginner-level course that covers the essentials of fashion design and garment making. You’ll learn how to use key fashion terms, identify different fabrics, and explore how colours work together. You’ll also practise creating fashion drawings, learn how clothes are made, and gain an understanding of how the fashion production process works. The course will also introduce you to key job roles in the fashion industry. If you’re new to fashion design and want to build your creative skills, this is the perfect place to start.

What will I do?

You’ll gain hands-on experience with:

  • Learn fashion design terminology and how to use it correctly
  • Identify natural and synthetic fabrics, as well as common haberdashery items
  • Explore colour relationships by creating colour wheels and understanding primary, secondary, and tertiary colours
  • Study how garments are made through stitching, tailoring, and knitting techniques
  • Practice fashion illustration, including flat drawings using templates and specific drawing methods

What’s next?

By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills to confidently create your own fashion designs. These skills can support your journey into freelance work, starting your own fashion business, or developing your creative fashion portfolio. It’s also a great foundation if you want to continue studying fashion design at a higher level.

Is it for me?

This course is ideal for beginners who want to learn how to design and make clothes. It’s a great fit for creative individuals, aspiring designers, or hobbyists who want to improve their skills for personal projects or a future career in the fashion industry.
