We asked our governors some questions about being a governor for MK College Group and this is what they said.
Why did you decide to become a governor for MK College Group?
“I joined after learning about the College’s huge impact on equipping young people and adults with the skills they need to get a job or further their career, especially those who have come from a challenging background.”
“Working in the community sector I wanted to develop my knowledge of Further Education and students, as I see the College as the key institution ensuring Milton Keynes is a thriving community.”
“I wanted to have an impact on changing outcomes for our city through the work of the College in meeting local needs and supporting businesses to develop and change and supporting the city to deliver its environmental aspirations.”
What is the most rewarding aspect of being a governor?
“Being a link governor has enabled me to work closely with areas within the college, where I can use my skills and experience to challenge and support.”
“Being part of an organisation that changes young people’s lives and enables learners to continuously surprise themselves in what they can achieve.”
What have you personally gained from being a governor?
“Being able to ‘give back’, using the experience I have acquired over the years which I use to benefit the College, which in turn has given me a greater sense of involvement in my own community.”
“I have been surprised by the learning I have gained, especially around equality, diversity and inclusion and being able to understand students’ issues, especially young people’s life challenges.”
“Being a governor has provided me the opportunity to continue my lifelong interest in education”.
