T Level: Maintenance Installation and Repair
INTRODUCTION
T Levels are a new two-year, Level 3 study programme that will follow the study of GCSEs and Technical Awards at Key Stage 4 and offer an attractive alternative to A Levels and Apprenticeships. T Levels will combine classroom theory, practical learning and a minimum 315 hours of industry placement with an employer to make sure students have real experience of the workplace. The Technical Qualification (TQ) is the main classroom-based element of the T Level and will see students learning from a curriculum that has been shaped by industry experts. During the two-year programme, students will learn the core knowledge that underpins each industry, and they will also develop occupationally specific skills that will allow them to enter skilled employment within a specific occupation.
Please note: T Levels are only available for students that will be 16-18 whilst studying the qualification.
What will I do?
- Students will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including: core units:
- Working within the Automotive Sector – an understanding of how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products
- Essential mathematics – a knowledge and understanding of mathematics as it applies to the sector.
- Materials and their properties – understanding material processing techniques and their effects on materials and material quality, the condition of materials, how these are managed, and materials testing methods and technique’s
- Business, commercial and financial awareness – basic commercial principles including commercial priorities and markets, customers/clients/partners and resource allocation.
- Specialism unit: Light and electric vehicles – The purpose of this specialism is for learners to know fundamental light and electric vehicle systems and undertake key procedures for maintenance and repair. Learners will have the opportunity to plan, perform and evaluate their work whilst utilising a range of materials, tools and equipment.
What’s next?
There is a range of progression routes leading to a level 4 apprenticeship, employment, university, or an undergraduate course at college.

This qualification is for you if you are a 16-19-year-old learner, who wishes to work within the motor vehicle sector and with electric vehicles.
entry requirements
You require five Grade 4 GCSE’s including Maths, English, and Science. No former work experience is required. This course is designed for 16 – 18 years olds wishing to stay in full-time education.
