Hair & Media Make-up Intermediate
INTRODUCTION
From creating classic looks using top make-up brands to turning everyday people into horrifying zombies, make-up artists are responsible for creating some of the most iconic looks in popular culture. The make-up industry is more prominent now than ever before. Studying our media make-up course will enable you to become a versatile and well-rounded professional with a wide range of skills, meaning you’ll be ready to work in many different sectors. You could be working on film sets, fashion shoots, for specific make-up brands, or even in live theatre.
What will I do?
You will create an up-to-date, versatile portfolio of different looks and styles ready to show employers. Learning from industry-experienced tutors, you will learn how to apply different forms of make-up, ranging from camouflage, airbrush, face and body art, media make-up, and more. During this hair and media makeup course you will learn a variety of hairdressing skills, including shampooing and conditioning techniques, plaiting and twisting on different styles of hair, blow dry, setting and styling for different occasions, and much more. You will display your work at the fantastic end of year catwalk show and take part in workshops with established make-up brands such as MAC.
There are also additional units included that further enhance the programme including eyelash and brow treatments and spray tanning.
Course highlights include:
- Visits from professional make-up artists
- Workshops on themed topics such as ‘drag queen’
- Opportunity to attend trips and visits within the department
- Internal work experience, such as assisting Performing Arts by providing the hair and make-up for theatre productions and performances
- Collaborating with the level 1 and 2 Hairdressing students on projects
- External work experience, including make-up consultations as part of events
What’s next?
If you want to hone your skills as a make-up artist and create a comprehensive portfolio, you could progress to studying a higher education qualification where you will further explore creative arts professional practice. After our hair and media makeup courses You could also take on work experience/freelance work as a make-up artist or hairdresser in a variety of industries, including editorial and make-up counters. You could also progress to study Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Art, Photography or Fashion.
Is it for me?
Do you keep up to date with the latest trends in make-up? Are you always experimenting with new products and techniques? As a make-up artist or hairdresser you must be creative, have a flair for fashion and be able to experiment and learn new things. Good communication skills are essential, as you will be dealing with multiple people to get the job done correctly. You future career could also give you the opportunity to travel, so if this is something that interests you, speak to tutors to gain their insights into the options open to you.
Entry Requirements
You require GCSE Maths and English with one at least Grade 4/C and the other at least Grade 3/D.
Once we have received your application you will be invited to a programme interview which will give you the chance to ask any questions you have about the course and for us to discuss which level you are most suited to based on your current / predicted results.
If you meet the entry requirements you will be enrolled on our Level 2 programme where you will gain a specialist qualification in your chosen area. If you don’t quite meet the entry requirements for Level 2 you will be enrolled onto our Skills Academy programme. Skills Academy gives you the opportunity to pick up essential study stills whilst still gaining technical knowledge in your chosen area. On completion of this course you will gain a Vocational Studies Certificate which will enable you to progress onto a full Level 2 specialist programme.
