INTRODUCTION

Jobs in engineering are globally in demand. Engineers create, test, and build, incorporating innovation, logic and purpose into their work. From the humble beginnings of the wheel and the lever, right up to aircrafts and dams, engineering has shaped the world we live in and continues to do so. Engineers have the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of people and society, bringing responsibility and reward to those who can innovate, create and succeed in the profession.

What will I do?

With relevant work experience, tours of local employers’ facilities, various local and international trips and visiting guest speakers, you’ll be focusing on preparing for your future career. Our Innovation and Technology Centre houses industry-standard equipment, including CAD software. You will conduct experiments using a wind tunnel, learn about working safely in different environments, and study relevant theories to help you become a well-rounded engineer. Learning from highly experienced tutors, you will conduct research assignments relevant to the industry now, not five years ago. You will cover all aspects of engineering, ranging from mechanical, including science and material properties, to electrical and electronic engineering.

What’s next?

Most roles in the industry require a Higher Education qualification. You’ll need to further your knowledge and study a specialism, growing your skills in specific areas in order to progress into the industry. You could also take on an apprenticeship in the industry, earning a wage while you develop your skillset and learning first-hand. Career opportunities in Engineering are vast, and through your course you will discover which area you’d like to specialise in and pursue.
