INTRODUCTION

Over the past few years, the number of people who experience allergic reactions has been steadily rising.  Today there are over 2 million people in the UK living with an allergy.

This course will introduce students to allergens, allergies, food labelling and allergy awareness for those who are either working with children, working in adult health and social care or working in the service sector.  The course includes information on the symptoms of allergic reactions, the treatments available for allergic reactions and first aid for those experiencing a severe allergic reaction.

What will I do?

This course is split into 3 units.  The learner will complete 2 mandatory units then select one of the optional units

Unit 1:  Allergens, allergies and intolerances (mandatory)

Unit 2:  Food labelling and packaging (mandatory)

Unit 3 Allergy awareness for those working with children (optional)

Unit 4:  Allergy Awareness for those working in adult health and social care (optional)

Unit 5: Allergy awareness for those working in the service sector (optional).

Is it for me?

This course is suitable for learners who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of allergies within their roles in the childcare, health and social care or the service sector.
You must already hold a L1 or equivalent English qualification.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All applicants must be at least 19 years of age to enrol for the course and have a good level of English skills to a minimum of Level One standard.

Applicants aged 19-23 are only eligible if they have already achieved a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Please contact us for clarification if required.

Applicants aged 24+ do not require any prior academic qualifications, but do need to meet the required standard of English skills. Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Wets of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland. HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course requires the completion and passing of three tutor marked online unit assessments.  Two of the assessments will relate to the 2 mandatory units of the course with the remaining assessment linked to the chosen optional unit. Learners are allocated a course tutor who will mark assessments and are able to be contacted through the online learning platform.

HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO STUDY EACH WEEK?

The course duration is 6 weeks and will requires approximately 4 hours of study per week plus the submission of 3 online assessments during the course. Course start dates are flexible, but learners are expected to successfully complete the programme within the allocated timescale.

These courses are free for eligible applicants who successfully complete the course. A fee of £90 will be charged to learners who enrol onto the programme but do not complete the course.
