What will I do?
This course provides a flexible way to study Functional Skills Level 2 Maths, for learners who are capable of learning online independently.
Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualifications in Mathematics at Level 2 is for learners who want to develop understanding and skills in mathematics.
The qualifications give learners the opportunity to:
- Demonstrate a sound grasp of the underpinning skills and basics of mathematical skills appropriate to the level.
- Apply mathematical thinking to solve simple problems in familiar situations.
What’s next?
Many employers and learning providers require applicants to have Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths, or equivalent.
On completion of this course, you can explore further study options, careers opportunities or seek employment.
Is it for me?
This learning option is ideal for many people, including those on night shifts, rotating work patterns and those uncertain about their availability to attend regular in-person classes.
To apply for Hybrid Maths, you must be highly motivated and capable of working independently.
Applicants for our Hybrid courses will undergo additional screening to determine suitability for online learning. You must be confident using computers. IT skills are not covered as part of this course.
Learners need the use of a laptop or desktop computer, as well as a reliable internet connection. We cannot lend you a computer to take home for this course. This course cannot be completed using a tablet or a mobile phone. A keyboard and average-sized screen are required.
You must be ready to begin online learning, with study skills and IT equipment in place, before considering this course.
Course highlights
Lessons are recorded and can be accessed at any time, to fit around your schedule.
Learning activities are completed through EQUAL, the Skills Network online learning platform. You will have a schedule of dates to complete units of work by. Within these timeframes, you can access and submit work whenever convenient for you.
Tutor support is available to supplement the online resources and to monitor your progress.
Occasional onsite attendance and Teams calls, for other assessments and tutor support, are sometimes required. These commitments will be agreed mutually with you.
Course Entry Requirements
Functional Skills Maths Level 1, or suitable outcome on assessments. Successful outcome on screening for suitability for online learning. Confident reading and writing in English.
The content and exams are in English and cannot be translated. This course is not suitable for those still learning English as an additional language, Have IT equipment required. Be a highly motivated, independent learner.
How will my progress be monitored?
EQUAL online learning activities provide feedback, and assignments are assessed through the platform.
In addition, there are regular opportunities to meet with your tutor so they can review your work, providing support and feedback.
How will I be assessed?
Exams are held once you are ready and passing mock assessments. Exams will be onsite at college, but the day and time are arranged with you to fit around your commitments.

Are there any entry requirements?
You must be aged 19 years or older on 31st August 2023.
You must not already have a Level 2 Maths qualification – C or 4 at GCSE, Level 2 Functional Skills or equivalent.
To get this course for free, Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Wets of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland.
