Businesses across Milton Keynes are being offered a £1,000 cash bonus by the government to help a young person gain essential work experience while studying the new T Level qualifications.
Equivalent to three A Levels, T Levels are a brand new, work-focused alternative to A levels, designed with employers to reflect the needs of the sectors and occupations they serve.
At the heart of each course, an extended work placement of a minimum of 45 days will equip young people aged 16-19 with the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to progress into work or higher-level study.
Industry placements will make up around 20% of the course, with students spending about 80% of their time in the classroom.
“As one of the region’s largest and most successful further education and training providers, we already have strong links with hundreds of local businesses, but we need more partners on board as we work closely together to prepare the future workforce in Milton Keynes.
T Levels offer a real opportunity for businesses to ensure their future employees are developing the technical knowledge, skills and workplace behaviours they need. Employers will also get the opportunity through placements to see how what the students learn in the classroom can be put to good use in the workplace and get access to the brightest new talent entering their industry.
Our expert team are on hand to offer help in designing the placement to fit around the needs of their business. We can even help with paperwork and offer support and advice on mentoring a young person to ensure the placement is a successful experience for all involved.”Anna Clarke, Director of Employer Engagement for Milton Keynes College Group
MK College is offering the new T Level qualifications to students who are looking to pursue a career in Education & Childcare, Construction and Digital, and is now reaching out to businesses to ask them to support students by offering a placement from September this year. Pathways in Business and Engineering will follow in 2022, plus many more.
The £1,000 incentive is open to employers of all sizes who take a student on work placement until 31 July 2022 and the cash can be spent as the business chooses.
Aimee Pawlak, Nursery Manager at Acorn Early Years Foundation, said, “Acorn at New Bradwell has a fantastic relationship with the College. Our current student is a great asset to the team. She is reliable and interacts beautifully with the children. She has the potential to be an excellent Early Years Practitioner. We will definitely take future students from the college. It is essential students have the opportunity to gain practical experience within an Early Years Setting.”
Any business that has a digital specialism, provides education or childcare services or operates in the construction industry is being invited to contact MK College to learn more, please get in touch using the form below to find out how you can be involved.
