As the Summer draws closer, our Creative Arts students are once again preparing for their virtual Summer Showcase – a gallery featuring their best work from throughout the academic year.
Last year, the students produced an amazing digital gallery that could be viewed remotely, which provided a fantastic alternative to the usual event. This year will be no exception, as students prepare their pieces to be viewed by friends, family and the public.
Creative Arts Showcase 2021
In the run-up to the main showcase, Level 3 Extended Art and Design programme created a Spring virtual exhibition titled ‘Under the Microscope’. This was a project that provided students with the opportunity to further develop their own interests and specialism. Alongside realising their artwork, the students also took responsibilities in curating this virtual exhibition, as well as design and production of an exhibition catalogue.
As the Arts and Media department currently plans for the Summer exhibition of students’ work, they have further developed the showcase to add a very special community element. Over the past year, the department as a whole has really valued the support and friendship of many external artists, arts organisations, partners and co-collaborators who have given input to our student’s experience. In recognition of this, they have decided to create a community gallery space as part of the Arts and Media Summer Showcase. Kate Bashford, Head of the Creative Arts at MK College, said:
“The past year has been challenging to say the least, for both staff and students within the creative arts, but we’ve been incredibly fortunate to have had the continued support of many local arts organisations and creative professionals. These valued partners have provided MK College creative art students with virtual workshops, work placements and talks, which as always, have enriched the experiences of our students. Their commitment to our students has been greatly appreciated during such a difficult time, and so to recognise this, we’re very excited to be opening up our Arts Summer Showcase to the wider community.”
The Creative Arts Department are therefore very happy to offer the opportunity for any member of the public to submit a piece of digital artwork to feature in the community gallery. This doesn’t need to be a brand new piece of work – if you have an existing piece of artwork that you would like to share as part of our annual celebration, we’d love to see it. The Arts Summer Showcase 2021 will launch in the week commencing 28th June and will be publicised across all of the MK College channels as well as local press.
The submission process is detailed in this Google Forms link – please note that the deadline for community submissions is at 5 pm on the 6th of May, so get your entries in quick. This deadline is necessary to facilitate the upload and curation of your artwork as well as that of all our students.
We can’t wait to see your work!
