‘‘An apprenticeship grew my skill base and confidence’’
Maya Santos, aged 20, achieved a Distinction grade in her Customer Service apprenticeship while working for Elavation Platforms and Training as a Hire Controller, and says that it’s been key in developing both her skills and confidence.
“My role involves hiring out powered access machines to different types of industries, something I knew nothing about initially, but I was keen to be able to learn something new.
Alongside working and gaining my Customer Service qualification, I’ve also been able to retake and successfully pass my Maths GCSE.
The teaching support provided by the College was excellent, and they always ensured that they explained things further when I didn’t understand something, offering extra learning if required.
Since completing the apprenticeship, I feel my confidence has massively grown. For example, I now know the best ways to deal with different types of customers in different situations, like speaking over the phone or over emails.
I’d recommend undertaking an apprenticeship to anyone – it will be hard and there’s lots of work involved but it is definitely worth it as you’ll learn so much!
My advice to anyone considering starting an application would be to just make sure that you research the company beforehand to understand the services and products that they provide.’’
Having successfully completed her Level 2 Customer Service apprenticeship, Maya is now going on to study a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Digital Marketing.
